Quote of the week

"I felt a great disturbance in the garden...it was as if a million weeds suddenly cried out in terror and were up-rooted and silenced."

We can see the light at the end of the tunnel....

Planting is almost complete! We can see the light at the end of the tunnel with just a few more things remaining to be placed in the soil. The only things left to be planted or transplanted from the greenhouse are peppers, okra, pumpkins, squash, celery, stevia, eggplants, cucumbers and a few other herbs. Then the real work begins with weeding, harvesting, etc.

Our first produce for the market will be lettuce and radishes in about 2 to 3 weeks! We can hardly wait to see what our first summer brings for our families!

A great day for planting!

Unfortunately because Mother Nature has been so fickle, everything is now two weeks behind. Fortunately the ground finally dried out, the rain stopped coming and we were able to enjoy some 50 degree days again. Over the past two days the Hohenstein and Wiest families have been busy out in the field. The tractor was tilling the ground while someone followed behind it and planted many different seeds...radishes, peas, beets, carrots, lettuce, spinach, swiss chard and a whole lot of potatoes...oh my! We are about 75% done with planting all of the cold season seeds and are acclimating the remaining plants to be moved into the freshly tilled earth as the rain waters our freshly planted seeds.
